Batian Peak traces its humble beginnings to Kairi village, a small rural coffee and tea growing district in central Kenya. At a young age, Peter Kagunye, the founder of Batian Peak developed a passion for coffee and tea and began to follow in the footsteps of his father, Samuel Kagunye.
Peter credits his parents for instilling in him a love for God and for people. Peter believes that everyone has a God given purpose deeply rooted in enriching other people’s lives. The journey to find his purpose was as unusual and unpredictable as it is for most people.
Peter moved to the U.S. in 1994 and worked extensive hours at odd jobs to pay for his tuition at the University of Massachusetts, Boston. After graduating from college, he worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers and Bain Capital before receiving his MBA from Babson College. While in school, Peter traced his true passion and purpose back to his home village and his family’s tradition; coffee, tea, and working with people.
Though humble and soft spoken, Peter’s passion is unmistakable when he talks about Batian Peak “In Batian Peak, I envision a coffee and tea village where customers savor the finest coffee and tea from around the world and share in an extra ordinary mission that will connect their lives with the passion and hope of the youth in coffee and tea growing communities.”
